Two Swedish journalists jailed on terrorism charges in Ethiopia were freed on Tuesday, September 10, 2012 after they were pardoned under a deal agreed by the late Ethiopian prime minister Meles Zenawi in the weeks before he died. Martin Schibbye, a reporter, and Johan Persson, a photographer, were sentenced in December, 2011 to 11 years in prison after being found guilty of joining a separatist rebel group and crossing into Ethiopia from Somalia illegally.
